Elena Bahar, LMFT | Clinical Director

Elena Bahar is a licensed clinician in the states of California, Colorado & Florida. Elena earned her Master’s Degree in Counseling Psychology from National University (NU) with a specialization in Marriage and Family Therapy (LMFT) and has been providing therapeutic services since 2016.

Elena is very passionate about working with individuals and couples who are looking to heal and grow, build a sense of meaning and purpose in their lives and reintegrate with their authentic selves.

She offers a non-pathologizing multidimensional approach in therapy employing techniques from different modalities tailored to your specific needs. Some of the therapeutic modalities that she is very passionate about include, Attachment Theory, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Evidence-Based Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS) & IMAGO Therapy.

When we unconsciously reenact old stories and the underlying needs and emotions are not being properly addressed, we can witness disconnection and resentment being built in relationships.

That may bleed into other aspects of the relationship as well, for instance, it may be reflected in decreased sexual intimacy, infidelity, communication problems, avoiding conflict at all costs, or engaging in frequent conflicts. “

– Elena Bahar, LMFT –

Elena looks at relationships from an Attachment lens meaning she believes that people instinctively seek relationships for safety and comfort and sometimes tend to reenact some of the old relational patterns and dynamics learned in childhood and bring those into their adult relationships. She helps her clients in building more conscious relationships and learning concrete tools to navigate conflict in a healthier manner, improve their communication skills and deepen their level of trust and intimacy.

Elena is currently accepting clients in California, Colorado, and Florida.

What is Elena's Approach?

As a trauma-informed therapist, Elena believes in the importance of the mind-body connection and actively assists her clients in gaining an explicit understanding of what’s happening in their systems. She emphasizes implementing Mindfulness and Somatic tools to help her clients in becoming active operators of regulating their nervous systems and expanding their window of tolerance for difficult emotions.

Elena’s therapeutic approach is direct and supportive where she fosters a safe and collaborative environment in which you as the client will an active participant during the process of therapy and healing.

She has extensive experience working with individuals recovering from a history of trauma, addiction, and mood disorders, including depression and anxiety. Her clients describe her as calm, compassionate, and insightful.

“History of unresolved trauma makes our Autonomic Nervous System stuck, so it chronically or continually comes to our aid in the form of dysregulation or active self-protection. A chronically dysregulated nervous system often relates to the world from the place of survival (Fight, Flight, Freeze & Fawn).“

Elena views healing as the process of coming back to who we are by creating more internal safety.

“When we relate to our inner experiences from a calm, mindful place, not only we are less overwhelmed, but also we can become more accepting of the aspects of ourselves with which we have been struggling. This is an empowering experience that promotes growth & healing.”

Elena aims to de-stigmatize the discussion of sex and sexuality and gently challenges some of the discourses that may get in the way of people fully embracing and accepting their sexuality while moving toward a more fulfilling and satisfying sex life. She creates a safe space to assist her clients in peeling back the layers of learned shame and stigma around sex and pleasure that we may have received growing up. She empowers her clients in re-establishing a healthier and more healed relationship to their sexuality.

Elena is a member of the American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors, and Therapists (AASECT).
