Find an Individual Therapist in Austin & Throughout Texas

I’m Looking for an Individual Therapist in Austin, TX. How Can Modern Intimacy Help?

Modern Intimacy is a group therapy practice that specializes in sex, mental health, and relationships. We are a diverse group of mental health professionals who strive to help people feel empowered and fulfilled personal, relational, and sexual lives. Those very domains of life can be challenging to work through because many have preconceived beliefs, messages, and understandings around sexuality, relationships, and mental health that could be in conflict with the life you’d like to be living.

Our goal here is to help people give themselves permission to live the most authentic life they can, overcoming any obstacles that are in the way of obtaining that life for yourself.

Modern Intimacy can help with whatever your unique goals are for therapy.

Since Modern Intimacy Specializes in Sex and Relationships, Can Individual Therapy in Austin Address Topics that Aren’t Related to Those Themes?

Absolutely! While our practice specializes in sex therapy, we still are mental health professionals with background in working with clients around mental health challenges and conditions. In fact, for many people, there is a cross over when it comes to relationships and mental health or sex and mental health. Given our expertise, you are able to get the best of both worlds with our providers since they can support you through mental health challenges such as depression, anxiety, and other conditions, and also can help address ways that mental health might be impacting other important aspects of your life, such as relationships

What is the Modern Intimacy Approach to Individual Therapy?

Each of our therapists has their own style and way of conducting therapy sessions. We are also big believers that one style of therapy doesn’t fit with every client’s unique needs. As such, our therapists strive to use a therapeutic approach and treatment plan that is individualized for your exact goals for attending therapy.

For some people, having a space to process thoughts and feelings is helpful, and others might be looking for a more solution-focused approach that includes homework assignments to work on in between sessions. Both options, and hybrid options, are valid, and our therapists will help you decide what approach would be best for your needs.

It’s also okay to not know what approach you need. You can leave that up to the therapist who will keep you in the loop of the approach they think would be best and check in with you periodically to make sure everything feels in alignment. We love feedback, so if anything ever feels off, you can always let your therapist know so they can adjust accordingly to meet your needs.

In terms of specific modalities our therapists will sometimes use, those can include, but are not limited to:

    •     Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)
    •     Mindfulness + Somatic Therapies
    •     Polyvagal Theory of Regulation
    •     Positive Psychology
    •     Motivational Interviewing
    •     Trauma Informed Approaches

What is the Cost for Individual Therapy and Do You Take Insurance?

We understand that finances are a major consideration when it comes to finding a therapist. Our fee structure is dependent on several factors such as clinician education level and credentials. We’d be happy to speak with you more in depth about our fees – if that is of interest, please schedule a complimentary consultation here and we can answer any questions you might have about finances.

In terms of insurance, we are not currently paneled with any insurance providers and as such are considered out of network. While we do not accept insurance, we can provide superbills which you can submit to your provider to potential reimbursement. If you have questions about eligibility, please give your insurance company a call so they can answer your questions with regard to your exact insurance plan and benefits.

If financial assistance is needed, we have the opportunity for sliding scale fees and also offer low cost and pro-bono therapy services with our externs (students in training), when there is availability. If there is not availability for our low cost services, we are happy to add you to our waitlist and be in contact when a spot becomes available.

I’d Like to Learn More! What are the Next Steps?

As a next step, we recommend scheduling a complimentary consultation with one of our Intake Specialists so we can ensure that Modern Intimacy would be a good fit for the services you’re seeking. During this call, we can also answer any outstanding questions you have and align you with a provider on our team who would be a good fit based on your needs and goals.
