Custody Agreements

When parents separate or divorce, one of the most important decisions they will make is how to divide parenting responsibilities and to support their children. Custody agreements are an objective and thorough assessment of each children’s needs and each parent’s ability to provide a safe and nurturing environment for their children. Custody evaluations are often ordered by a court or requested by one or both parents to help determine the best interests of the children. Custody agreements are sought by parents who wish to avoid the costly or often acrimonious process of custody evaluations.

Our custody evaluations are conducted by trained and experienced professionals who use a variety of methods to assess each parent’s abilities and needs. Interviews are conducted with each parent and collateral sources, interactions between parents and children are observed (when necessary), a review of each parent’s concerns and goals noted.

The result of the custody agreement can provide valuable information to help parents make informed decisions about their children’s well-being, and to come to an agreement on how to coparent collaboratively.

Coparenting Therapy

Co-parenting can be a challenging and emotional process, especially when parents have different parenting styles or unresolved conflicts. Our coparenting therapy services help parents work through these challenges and build a positive and effective co-parenting relationship, to avoid court involvement.

Both individual and joint therapy sessions are offered to help parents develop communication and problem-solving skills, manage conflict, and navigate parenting disagreements. Our therapists use evidence-based practices to help parents establish healthy boundaries, develop mutual respect, and prioritize their children’s needs.

Coparenting therapy can be especially helpful for parents who are struggling to co-parent after a high-conflict divorce or separation. Dr. Balestrieri is trained to help parents manage the emotional impact of these experiences and move forward in a positive and constructive way.
