Why Women Should Care About Porn
Thinking Critically About Erotic Material
A Collective Exploration
Virtual Workshop + Discussion | Hosted by Rachel Overvoll + Dr. Kate Balestrieri
Tuesday, September 13th, 2022
1:00 – 3:00 PM Pacific Time
Join Dr. Kate Balestrieri, Founder of Modern Intimacy, and Sex Coach, Rachel Overvoll, in this 2 hour interactive workshop about how to think (and decide how you feel) about porn.
During the workshop, myriad topics will be covered, related to sexuality and the individual, relationships and society.
Together we will discuss many dimensions of porn, including but not limited to:
- the historical context of pornography
- understanding how fantasies and porn can intertwine
- cultivating a deeper understand women and the consumption of porn
- learning how to have a healthy relationship with porn
- understanding the female gaze vs. male gaze in porn (and deciding how you feel about both)
- de-stigmatizing the idea of porn and it’s role in your life
- the pros and cons of porn in relationships
This workshop maintains a position of neutrality, and the facilitators have no agenda to convince people that porn is good or bad, or that you should or should not consume it. Instead, this workshop is designed to give you information, so you can feel equipped to think about porn in a dimensional manner, explore your own feelings about it, and communicate with others about your wants, boundaries and limits.
This workshop will also include somatic exercises, thought provoking prompts, with in vivo viewing of a few short porn clips, to help you facilitate an integrated awareness of your own reactions, and to foster group discussion.
Ultimately, the goal is to help to answer the question why women should care about porn, even if they don’t consume it, or like it.
*This workshop is open to Women, femmes, and vulva owners, to maintain a safe space for a vulnerable and non-objectifying conversation about erotic material.
If you are a man/masc/penis owning person and want to participate in a similar workshop, let us know if you’re interested, and we’ll add you to the wait list.
Join us to think deeply about the many dimensions of porn, and to redefine and reclaim an empowered perspective on pleasure.
