What is Presley's Approach?
Presley is compelled to look beyond the confines of traditional talk therapy and recognize our field as ever-evolving. Always curious about new, innovative treatments- as well as ancient practices- she supports the expansion of modern therapeutic assistance by adopting a mindset of “what else can we do?”.
Her multidimensional framework prioritizes eclecticism and a commitment to meeting each individual client’s needs as well as personal style. Some of her particular interests include psychodynamic and existential theories, narrative and expressive arts therapies, and somatic-based healing.
Our relationship to self, to others, and to the world around each play a role in personal growth. Given the socio-cultural bases of identity, Presley understands how external forces impact self-concept. Her clinical work stresses the power within each individual to break generational patterns and societal standards. While we must understand ourselves as part of a larger society, we must also all combat its negative constructs and expectations.
Presley aims to celebrate the uniqueness of each individual- as well as their choices- while grounding her work in commonalities which connect us all. This approach emphasizes identity, exploration, collaboration, and play.
“What can you do when you are deeply, madly, truly in the moment?
What can you do when you know who you want to be is imperfect?”
– Lin Manuel Miranda –
Presley is Passionate
Presley feels tremendously fortunate to have cultivated a creative voice through her previous career in LA’s film industry. Her goal in counseling remains largely the same- creating the space for peoples’ stories to be told. She believes that the ongoing therapeutic relationship between client and practitioner has the power to heal and transform. By providing a safe place for expression, she hopes to use client’s stories to develop their strengths, identify barriers to their well-being, challenge their status quos, and further empower them to face their futures.
Having always been driven by a desire for new perspectives and a curiosity into the human condition, Presley emphasizes personal development and self-discovery through her own life as well. This has led to studying multiple topics in her higher education process, working collaboratively in many industries, and living both nomadically and intercontinentally. She acknowledges the complex process behind finding- and continuously refinding- oneself. Yet, she also recognizes how exploration ultimately provides us with heightened perspective- as well as the ability to connect, communicate, and empathize with a diversity of people.
“Trauma is a fact of life. It does not, however, have to be a life sentence.”
– Peter A. Levine
